Joseph M. Stehr

Mr. Stehr has thirty years experience as an FBI Agent. He participated in the investigations of the attempted assassinations of President Ronald Reagan and Governor George Wallace. He was case agent for the investigation and prosecution of a smuggling ring that secreted heroin in the bodies of slain service men killed in Vietnam. He also has extensive experience in the investigation of white-collar crime.
Mr. Stehr served on the protective detail of the Attorney General of the United States under the Regan Administration. He later served as supervisor of the FBI's Special Detail Unit, responsible for the security of both the Attorney General and the Director of the FBI. In this capacity he not only oversaw the physical security of the protectees but also coordinated the procurement and installation of residential and office security and communications systems. He also managed the design and procurement of armored vehicles. The Special Detail Unit, under Mr. Stehr's supervision, received advanced training in firearms, driving, emergency first aid and defensive tactics, all specific to executive protection. He also maintained a close working and training relationship with the FBI's Hostage Rescue Team, which was the primary source of agent personnel for the protective detail.
Mr. Stehr spent several years on special assignment to the Surveys and Investigations Staff of the U.S. House of Representatives Appropriations Committee, where he served as Assistant Director. In this capacity he directed and participated in numerous complex and sensitive investigations of both military and civilian programs within the executive branch of the United States government. The subject matter was diverse and included such topics as weapons system development, information management, procurement practices and procedures, intelligence matters and the management of public resources. The investigators he supervised included several retired military general officers as well as former executives from CIA, FBI, INS, DOD and USSS.
Mr. Stehr holds a Bachelors of Science degree in Marketing and Finance from St. Joseph's University, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
